The Meeting that Will Change Your Marriage
If you haven’t heard me talk about the “lessons learned from a draft horse”, it’s a concept that working in unison with your spouse to accomplish the same result is the most effective way to achieve that said result.
While a single draft horse can pull 8,000 lbs., 2 draft horses that haven’t been trained together can pull 24,000 lbs. But 2 draft horses that HAVE been trained together and know how to work in unison, as a true team, can pull 32,000 lbs.
Being on the same page as a couple is a huge contributor to your financial success. If each person is trying for something different, or isn’t contributing to the efforts in the same way, it’s much more difficult to fulfill your dreams and goals with money.
But how do you make sure each person knows where the other is headed? How do you ensure you and your spouse are pulling as a trained team and moving in unison toward the same goal?
It’s called a dream meeting. And it’s the ticket to winning long term with your marriage and your money.
This dream meeting is a change to share your dreams, goals and desires. It’s a time to discuss where you want to life to be and how you want it to look. It’s a place to let your imagination take hold and your thoughts become spoken visions.
And this is where it gets fun. When you verbalize your visions, you give them life. And sharing them with your spouse create accountability. Because now, you both know what the other wants and you get to decide how to accomplish that. Which is part of the beauty of marriage…helping your spouse live life.
So how should this dream meeting go?
Well it starts with just sharing what you want your life to look like if money isn’t a problem. Do you want to travel, enjoy hobbies, give generously, etc. What makes you happy, fulfilled and satisfied. And
what will it take to get there? Will you need more money or more time? What will help you make that dream a reality?
Then you decide what is keeping your from that dream. Do you need to get debt paid off or get kids through school? Maybe you need to have more time and flexibility to travel or volunteer. Perhaps it’s simply have money to enjoy helping others. Your dream can be big or small. It can be financial or all about family. It can be something you want to do now, or it can be planned for years down the road. But what is standing in your way?
Finally, once you know what you want to do and what is your biggest obstacle, you get to create a plan to overcome that obstacle and achieve your goal.
And now that you and your spouse both know the goal, the challenge and the solution, you are accountable to one another…and encouraged by each other…to make it happen.
That is a powerful situation and it’s the difference between living life in frustration vs with freedom.
So have your dream meeting. Share your passions and desires. Find the challenge you have to overcome. Discover the solution to implement. And work as a team to accomplish your dreams.
